One Day Hikes and Activities
Overview
Each package includes one night full ensuite room accommodation and all meals. Prices are per person and each package requires a minimum of 2 people (sharing room).
Please note:
- * Clothing: it can get below freezing on the mountains during winter whilst it is always warm during the day (so bring sun cream). You will need warm clothing for the evening and a good sleeping bag if staying overnight in the mountains. Standard hiking boots are fine.
- * Camel School: Bedouin Paths uses the Yalla Jabaleya camel school for the Camel School package.
- * Travel: you need to make your way to our Bedouin Camp in St Katherines. We can arrange personal transfers from Dahab, Sharm El Sheikh or elsewhere in Sinai. Please state your requirements when making the booking.
Hikes
* 1 Day Hike – Mt Sinai
Climb the 2285m Mt Sinai during the day or for sunset or sundown and visit the famous St Katherines monastery. We take you the non tourist route via Wadi Arbeen and the famous Rock of Moses (where it is alleged he made the water come out from the rock). The ascent is around 600m.
* 1 Day Hike – Mt Katherine
Mt Katherine is the highest peak in all of Egypt at 2,650m and the views are stunning. The ascent is around 1000m and is a good days hike, if you wish you can stay for sunrise and/or sunset.
* 1 Day Hike – Abbas Basha
The ruined palace of Abbas Basha has some of the best views in Sinai, and you can see all the way to the coast. The Palace is an ascent of around 800m from the Bedouin Camp. The gardens of Wadi Zawatein are beautiful in spring.
* 1 Day Hike – Overnight in the Mountains
We visit the ruined palace of Abbas Basha and then stay the night in a Bedouin garden in Wadi Zawatein. The morning sunrise is breathtaking as the shaows climb down the wadi walls.
* Camel School
Learn how to ride, control and dress a camel properly from the experts. You will be able to walk, run and race your camel and learn how to talk to them. This is a full day programme and includes lunch.
* Herbs & Gardens
The Bedouin are masters of mountain agriculture and the breadth of herbs, flowers fruit and vegetables grown is staggering. You will meet Dr Ahmed, the famous local herbalist and visit his garden.
* Crafts & Arts
The Bedouin women make wonderful hand made crafts; bags, carpets and all sorts of accessories. You can join them for a day and learn how to make genuine Bedouin crafts. For local cultural reasons his is for women only.
* Fire & Bread Making
When was the last time you made a fire? Or baked bread over it? Well now is your chance to learn from the experts. Your Bedouin guide will show you the art of making fires; for water, for bread, for a meal – and then it’s your turn.
