Dwellings
Bedouin Paths has two key roles in the local community; and building and improving the mountain dwellings is one of them. This section tells you what we are doing in this area and where and how your money is spent.
It costs around 6,000 LE to build an eco friendly toilet in the Bedouin mountain gardens. That’s about £550. So if you and four friends came with us on a 10 day hike; then the 10% contribution will pay for one. And that means you can also use it next time you hike.
All our development work is done in the mountains and wadis surrounding the south
Sinai town of Katherine. Later we expect this to expand to the coastal areas. We
will have a number of projects on the go be the end of this year and as and
when the details come in we shall show them to you in all their glory. The key
upgrades are wells, gardens, showers and water, sanitation, electricity and the
rebuilding of the rooms and roofs. All this means the local Bedouin, and you, get
a better place to rest and stay.
Education
Bedouin Paths has two key roles in the local community; and educating the local children in English is one of them. Bedouin Paths sources, funds and employs qualified English teachers to teach the local children at no charge.
It costs around $500 to keep our classroom running each month. It educates 48 children (4 classes of 12 each) and provides them with a professional teacher (Mr Sayeed) and pens and paper. So if you and three friends came hiking with us for a week, your 10% donation (taken from the price you pay) would pay for Mr Sayeed for almost 2 months.
We employ fully professional and qualified English teachers from Egypt. Each
teacher takes between 15 and 20 classes a week; each class consisting of
an average of 20 pupils. The children of Katherine are like all other children
around the world; they want to have fun and learn and have a future.
Bedouin Paths provides all the books, pens, paper and equipment that is
